Social media influencers 2010 – download the final report

Following on from the success of our social media monitoring tools review earlier this year, we’ve been testing nine of the leading social media monitoring tools in order to assess how effective they are at identifying influencers.
We’ve tested Attensity 360, Brandwatch, Radian6, Alterian, Scoutlabs, Sysomos, Synthesio, PeerIndex and Social Radar using the subject of “organic baby food” as the test topic for our report.
We felt it would be interesting to see how well each of the tools could help identify influencers for this much-discussed topic. Will the tools pick out key “mummy bloggers” and frequently visited forum posts in parenting sites such as Mumsnet and BabyCentre?

We’d like to thank all the tool providers for enabling us to carry out this report. We’d also like to give a special mention the following people for their comments and opinions about influencers, which have been included in the report: Chris Brogan, Jay Baer, Murray Newlands, Louise Parker and Kelly Pennock.

Was waiting all week for this to come out, and I’m more than pleased with the results.
Thanks again for doing this and involving Sysomos!

I really like the introduction and explanation of what an “influencer” means for Fresh Networks – which can vary, but I agree with your definition – and the classification process with the “notes”, making it easier to compare among the platforms. Thanks again for including Synthesio in your presentation, and looking forward to catching up with you guys again soon.
Best,

I’ve looked through the report and it is full of information. The art of monitoring and the tools used to do it have been exposed here. There’s a lot of detail, but if you’re going to get into this sort of stuff then you had better get used to detail!
If you’re trying to decide on a sentiment analysis system then this report you should help you get closer to deciding which one to choose.
One thing is clear, whatever system you put in place there’s an element that needs to be added to all of them. It’s personal touch. The analysis of the data these systems output is crucial to their successful implementation – and that means people sitting down and carefully sifting through it all.
Monitoring is an essential part of a communication strategy, it isn’t a side-show to be allocated minimal budget and hours.
Social media is not free. It takes a lot of business hours and other resources to leverage it effectively. But given the correct instinct, knowledge, systems, tools and investment it will produce excellent returns.

Thank you for sharing your report on Social Media Influencers, it was really positive for us to see Radian6 included and perform so well.
I also agree with Michelle, it was interesting gaining such detailed insight into what quantifies an Influencer, justifying the reasons to engage and your suggestions for strategies.
We always enjoy reading your monitoring tool comparisons and we look forward to seeing the next report!
