Thanks for the mention Matt. I agree with you. Mine wasn't meant to be an exhaustive list. Just a few examples that show how hard it is to "house" it in a corner, or contain it somewhere. I think if we tried we could make a much longer list.

Where doesn't it fit? Even the Civil Service have issued guidelines for using Social Media - http://www.gallomanor.com/2008/06/guide-to-using.html. They recognise that anyone within the Civil Service could blog and want to encourage it in a positive way.

Social Media doesn't live in any part of an organisation. An organisation should be embracing social media in it's culture for all employees and stakeholders to embrace, and that cultural change needs to start from the top.

Agree with your comments and would add that social media is relevant to both the Marketing and Sales elements of any business. Social Media and the networking possibilities it provides is a powerful tool to aid sales departments. I recently wrote an article entitled 'RIP Cold Calling' which looks very specifically at how social media will reduce the dependence on cold calling: http://www.modernselling.com/sales-expert-comment/social-networking-in-sales.aspx
